Speculative design for global airports
What is the future architecture of air travel? This was the driving question behind a studio at the North Carolina State University’s College of Design. With the guidance of Wayne Place, professor of architecture, and Fentress Architects, five teams created new, speculative airport typologies for different cities worldwide: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Shiraz, Iran; Wellington, New Zealand; Toamasina, Madagascar; and Nanjing, China. The designs and models were exhibited at the Time Space Existence biennial exhibition, which was documented in full by PLANE—SITE, alongside interviews with students, professors, and Fentress Architects to offer an insight into this future-oriented project.
