South Africa + BRG Collaboration

Opening in the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic, Beyond Bending II is an exhibition hosted by the European Cultural Centre, which presents an innovative, ecological alternative to traditional architecture in South Africa. The ETH zürich, Block Research Group, and Noncrete, harnessed their knowledge in design, ecology, and engineering to produce a woodchip strengthened material and complementary geometry that could reduce the amount of concrete and overall waste.

To overcome the challenges of social distance and travel restrictions, PLANE–SITE conceived a simultaneous, multi-city production effort that convened exhibition contributors in Venice, Zurich and Capetown for a timely conversation.
