At the World Architecture Festival
The challenges associated with the provision of adequate and affordable housing around the world demand that architects respond with original solutions that challenge traditional building forms, typologies and methods of delivery.
PLANE—SITE was invited to curate and produce a panel for the World Architecture Festival in Berlin. "Housing as a Matter of Fact" presented four innovative housing prototypes, in the words of residents themselves. Using film as a medium for the architects to interact with their own project, the panel triggered a dialogue between the designers and users of the projects.
Building profiles of R50 and Spreefeld were included in the 2017 exhibition "Together! The New Architecture of the Collective" by curators Ilka and Andreas Ruby of Ruby Press and EM2N at Switzerland's Vitra Design Museum.
OMA’s unique mixed-use project Timmerhuis brings residential options back into the city center of Rotterdam for demographically diverse residents by adding two terraced towers to a municipal building renovation.
R50, designed by ifau und Jesko Fezer with Heide & von Beckerath, is one of Berlin’s most remarkable Baugruppe projects, promoting both participatory planning and collective decision-making. Shared spaces include a community living room on the ground floor, uninterrupted wrap-around balconies, and a roof garden.
